[the reveal: heart shirt makeover}

Sorry. I didn't mean to drag out the reveal of the "Thrift Store Heart Shirt Makeover" quite that long... but it's been a very busy week. My oldest boys {twins} turned the big double digits on Thursday 10! We basically had two full days of festivities between family and friends parties!!!

I sewed on hearts in accompanying material and thread color to cover those "who knows what they were" stains. I'm kinda glad it had the stains though, cuz now I like it even better! I like the little handmade touch it gives it.-

When thinking about what I would wear with it, I remembered this necklace that I made last Fall, it couldn't be a better match! I love it when things come together like that...

{saturdays yardsale delivered & a chalkboards on the way}

The story goes like this:


I have been looking for something to turn into a chalkboard for a while now... Saturday I went to a ginormous yard sale and there she was, Mrs. I've Seen Better Days waiting for little old me to sweep her off her feet and give her a little makeover from a has-been mirror to a I-can-hardly-keep-my-hands-off-you chalkboard!

One step forward in the kitchen/dining/family room makeover direction! I wasn't sure what exactly I'd use the blue tinted glass jar for when I first got it, other than decoration of course.. but now I think I'll use it to hold chalk! I'm just itching to condition the chalkboard and start writing out my weekly menu's and daily words of wisdom! 

To find the right vintage blue/green color of paint, I took the lid of my Martha Stewart teapot my mom gave me for Mother's Day, the teapot that started this whole change of color scheme and makeover... and matched it to a Dutch Boy color at Walmart called "Escape #G004."

{note to self (or husband I guess I should say): when I take everything off the walls to repaint... rehang the chalkboard with an even amount of wall on each side.}

{I'm way annoyed... I just upgraded to the newer version of posting through blogger and I HATE it. Arrrggghhhh! It's giving me all sorts of headaches... can't move the pictures where I want them, can't type in between pictures.. only at the very top or bottom, cant, cant, cant.. Is anyone else frustrated with it too? Just wondering-}

Okay now that I've vented, I feel a little bit better.. but only a little. So, how do you like it so far??? I know I said I was going to take pictures a few weeks ago of the new things I had found for the boys room at Ikea but life happened and here we are. Sorry it took so long.--- I'm still looking for some storage solutions and would love to find some old lockers, the walls are obviously bare and I haven't decided what all is going to accompany them, I'm going to paint their desk a different color, probably white or green like their sheets {haven't decided yet}, the cord on the space orbit light still needs to be attached and ran down the corner of the wall and most likely painted the wall color to blend since I hate cords, and amongst other finishing touches they still need some floor length curtains on the window, but this is it for now and I'm likin' it!


Added Ikea items are: ceiling light fixture, corner orbit projecting light, little martian night lights in window seal, abstract polka dot duvet covers + pillow cases and alien green fitted sheets and big square pillows. Saturday while at Walmart I came across the most perfectly matching orange colored round pillow/throw set on clearance for.. are you ready??? $3.99! Woot!!! They were actually marked down to $7.99 on the sticker which I thought was still worth the buy and then at the register they rang up as three-freakin-ninety-nine!!! I almost jumped for joy and did the moonwalk, but instead I contained my emotions 'til I got them in their room and then I added some screams and squeals too! Isn't the round pillow cute with the dots on the duvet, say YES!

Oh and the gritty little haunted house plug-in is from Bath & Body and guess what??? It doesn't just light up... it FLICKERS!!!!!!!! Doesn't get much better than that, I tell ya! Now run out and get yourself one, or two.. or three... hee hee hee  I know I'm going back for more!

{last weeks thrift store finds}

My kitchen/dining/family room area is undergoing plans for a makeover... Wall color and all.. now this doesn't mean that I'll be throwing out the old and getting all new. The fun comes with timeless, vintage pieces and making as much of what you already have somehow work. These three pieces will be finding their way into the newly made-over space. I L.O.V.E. the vintage blue/turquoise tones which I will be incorporating in with my already red kitchen cabinets and adding a lot more white! I can't wait... but I'm still trying to pull together all my ideas. 

Is it just me... or does everybody have a "thing" for old muffin tins? 

{M&D's Living Room Makeover}

I just had to share my parents Living Room Makeover. Unfortunately, I didn't take before shots, so this is only the reveal! I do have to mention though, they made the decision to *keep* all of their furniture {note: which was all 30+ years old} and have it all reupholstered. It was all such classic furniture & built like a rock, not to mention the fact that they couldn't find an 11 foot sofa like the one they had {which my Dad really wanted, this couch is his "nap" couch.. he loves that he can lay out flat from head to toe on it}. So they picked new fabrics for the furniture, kept their amazing curtains and had them cleaned and rehung, replaced the carpet, added tile in the foyer/hallway, repainted and added more molding. Oh, they also kept all of their lighting, it too was irreplacable. They took them down, had them cleaned and the missing crystals replaced and now they are more beautiful than ever.

The lamp looks absolutely amazing with the new fabric on the sofa to the side of the end table {notice how the lamp has a light in the bottom of of the lamp too, that part can be on by itself creating great ambiance lighting} and the end table... gorgeous with it's white marble top and over-sized square shape.

So far, this table is the only *new* piece of furniture in the room.

My Mom loves floral arrangements, she designed one for their master bedroom when they did that project some years ago and now she just designed this one for her new living room. She picked out the white magnolias because my Dad's from the south and it reminds her of him and knew that he'd like them.

This cozy love seat used to be dressed in an olive green velvet fabric, they replaced it with this rich, chocolate-y velvet fabric.

This gorgeous candelabra wall sconce hangs above the brown velvet love seat.

These chairs used to be dressed in a dramatic, red velvet material now they wear this elegant, neutral diamond pattern fabric.

The chandelier that's worth a thousand words. L.O.V.E. it!!!

{do forgive me...}

I've neglected you so... Not that I wasn't gettin' gritty over anything a-l-l this t-i-m-e, believe me I was... it just hasn't been much of my own & what it has been, I haven't taken the time to post it. I know... my bad! I think it kind of spurred from trying to find things to finish up the boys space themed bedroom makeover, and between a lack of dinero and not finding affordable bedding things, that project came to a screeching halt! {One of my biggest pet peeves I'll have you know.. to start on something and not be able to finish it}. Therefore I lost much of my drive & excitement and found myself strolling through blog-world admiring all the other projects that were being executed in a timely manner and were of course so well done.

Anyhoo, I F-I-N-A-L-L-Y found some of the items I was looking for, thanks to 1. a long-distance friend who paid me a spontaneous visit, 2. who needed to do some shopping of her own, 3. and was kind enough to tag along on my long awaited & much needed trip to IKEA! Yay--- I'm still not done, {are we ever done???} BUT- it's feeling and looking much better now, and I'll take that! I promise some "in-progress" pictures, if I can ever get a second to spare when their room is in a post-worthy state! HA! I'm hoping for this weekend after they do their chores and pick up their room from the weeks clutter buildup...
